POV: DIY wedding, a stressed bride is never a photogenic bride!

Picture your wedding morning: dressing your venue, setting your decor and making sure every detail is set to perfection, with your bride squad in tow. Although it might sound like an ideal way to spend the morning of your wedding, we’re here to tell you why it might be better to leave it to the experts…

We absolutely love the personal elements we see in a DIY wedding, and we strongly believe that you’ve got it in you to achieve the most incredible day, which is beyond personal to you two as a couple. But no DIY wedding should be tackled by just yourself.

The morning of your wedding is just as precious as the rest of the day: a relaxed start will set you in your stride for the wave of emotions that come naturally with every wedding day. It’s time to concentrate on you and ensure to enjoy quality time with your bridal party.

Here at the Kedleston, we like to offer our help as little or as much as you would like us to. During the planning process, we have tools and strategies in place, allowing you to hand over any stressful and time-consuming tasks to us. Between our wedding planning team here at The Kedleston, we have over 15 years of experience and thousands of weddings under our belts, so our biggest piece of advice to you is to utilise your wedding coordinators knowledge and expertise - they’re here to help you!

Communication is KEY when it comes to liaising with your wedding coordinator - make sure they know exactly how you envisage the day - if you’re a visual person, you may find creating a mood board helpful. You can then not only share this with your wedding coordinator, but with your other suppliers too.

It’s also super helpful to organise and label up any stationery or decor you’re bringing on the day: for example, putting all of your name cards in individual packages for corresponding tables (small food bags come in handy for this!). Label things up clearly so that your wedding coordinator or stylist can easily place things out on the day.

Now you can sit back and relax knowing that all of those finer details are being taken care of, here are a few tips on how to make the most of your wedding morning:

  • EAT BREAKFAST! We get it - you’re nervous. You may not feel like eating. But breakfast is so important as it may be some time before you get the chance to grab a bite to eat during the day - especially if you’re having a later wedding breakfast. Remember to stay hydrated too!

  • Create a ‘Glam Squad’ schedule - creating a schedule with your MUA and hair stylist will avoid the feeling of being rushed. Include your bridesmaids within this schedule and share this amongst them so they are not relying on you to organise them.

  • Music: create a wedding morning playlist with some feel good tunes that will turn any nerves into excitement. A pre-ceremony dance party with your bridal party sounds like a dream, right?!

  • Take a breather: Time will fly, but before you rush off to say ‘I Do’, give yourself five minutes to yourself to gather your thoughts, relax your shoulders... and breathe.
